The Lesser Cloister
You are now in a 15th century cloister belonging to the monumental complex of the cathedral. The staircase you just went down made you go 300 years back in time after the previous cloister, the 18th century old one. This beautiful cloister is shaped in galleries placed upon one another; on each floor you can see the doors of the Canons' homes. Still nowadays, in fact, the cloister includes true houses, inhabited by both priests and lay citizens. To live here makes the impression of living on an "island," a well-delimited neighborhood, a sort of little castle within the wonderful town center.
Please look up, you will spot a wood balcony. Its level is the same as the place where your tour began, namely the upper cloister. But you still need to go a little more downstairs in order to reach Perugia's old town.
